Howey Mansion is an architectural gem in the Lake County town of Howey-In-The-Hills. Indeed, wandering through the estate feels like stepping back into the 1920s. Mr. Howey purchased this 60,000-acre property in 1920, planting citrus trees on most of his new acreage. In 1925, Howey and his wife started building their permanent home, completed in 1927.
The home features a Mediterranean Revival style, with an expansive lawn, wrought iron gates, and a lengthy driveway. The rose stucco walls have creeping vines, the roof comprises Ludwig tiles, and the entrance features a bas-relief frontispiece. Additionally, the arched doorway features ornamental grille work double doors, and a fanlight. Other elements include stained glass and elegant woodwork.
In 2017, Brad and Clay Cowherd purchased the historic property, which had long been abandoned. They carefully restored and renovated the home, meticulously restoring much of its rich history and bringing the beloved Florida landmark back to life.
